Travel – Birthday Vacation: Exmouth

On my birthday, we spent the morning in London before we took the train to visit G’s relatives in Exmouth for a few days. G spoilt me with some delicious macarons from Pierre Herme and a bracelet from Givenchy. (Thank you, G!) (WARNING: Picture heavy post!)

I had been obsessing over the python Givenchy Obsedia bracelet for a long time at Barney’s and it either wasn’t marked down or it did and sold out in no time. I’d always stalk it online, patiently awaiting for it to go on sale but alas, no such luck. I was pleased to finally find one in a color that I liked and G happily bought it for me as a birthday gift in advance! (trust me, I count my blessing every day and am very grateful to have G who spoils me!)

For my birthday, my only request was to have some macarons to celebrate since I had received my gift in advance. I had heard a lot about Pierre Herme and from the reviews I read, it is touted to be better than Laduree. I was curious to have some and G allowed me to pick as many as I’d like. Since I liked the London Landmarks box, I got to pick 16 macarons! I had one of each, as there were 13 flavors to choose from and doubled up on the chocolate, Matcha green tea and salted caramel. My favorite flavor was the Matcha green tea. I love that the macarons were not too sweet and it melted in my mouth. I had to pace myself and not eat all 16 of them during our train ride from London to Exmouth. Let’s just say it took me a lot of self-restraint!

Upon arrival in Exmouth, I was treated to my own caterpillar birthday cake! G had told them in advance that it was my birthday. G’s cousin and his family whom we visited has a household tradition whereby caterpillar cakes are a must for birthdays. I felt very loved! After some cake and tea, we were given a brief walking tour of Exmouth.

It was Exmouth Festival when we visited and we got to listened to a couple of songs by one of the many bands that performed. Sorry, I forgot the name of the band! We then took a stroll along the seafront.

It was a beautiful day on my birthday and after the little tour from G’s cousin, we had a BBQ cookout to end the day. Needless to say, I had a wonderful birthday and am so thankful to G and his relatives for making it a special day!

Happy Birthday Coco Chanel!

Today marks the 125th birthday of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. You have been such a great influence in my style! Thank you for popularizing the trends that has now become classic staples: the LBD, quilted handbags, tweed jackets, capped-toe ballet flats, and my absolute favorite, stands of pearls. Now, I just need to work on adding a real tweed jacket to my wardrobe and I will be all set!

Are you a fan of Chanel?

Belated Birthday Reveal!

I have been coveting this faux exotic item since the Spring/Summer 2012 accessories began trickling in November 2011. I couldn’t stop thinking about it but I couldn’t bring myself to pay full price for it either. I knew it would go on sale as it was a seasonal item but I also know many people seem to be coveting the same item as I am (or at least I thought so). I did my research (as with most of my major purchases) and finally pulled the trigger when I thought it was the best possible deal I could get.

For the first time ever, I shamelessly asked for contributions to my birthday fund for my coveted item. My sister and G were both very gracious and generous to chip in! I was able to get the item for a little over 30% off retail from Matches Fashion (they ship to US VAT-free and I was able to find a coupon) before my birthday and am mighty pleased to have this in my collection!

Pride, the mascot for London Olympics approves of Alexa since they’re both British!

I received the Alexa at the end of April, a month early from my birthday but I didn’t take any pictures of it until now. I figured it’s befitting now with the London Olympics that just begun and Mulberry being a British brand! Also, better than late than never, right? Heh.

Birthday Gift Request

My brother called me at work today to wish me a belated birthday and told me to pick a birthday gift from Paris as him and my sis in-law will be spending a day in Paris before he departs back to Kiasu Island. He has been in south of France for training for the past 5 weeks.

I asked what his budget was and his response was, “don’t break the bank!” Ha, that’s a subjective answer, in my opinion. In any case, I have been wanting a classic watch for a while now and have also been pining for the Cartier trinity ring to add my list of classic items. While these two items have not been a main priority, they are must-haves on my list.

Cartier Trinity ring

So, what do I do? I looked up the prices of the items (my brother suggested that I look for them online and that he will call me tomorrow to get my response) and lo and behold, the watch that I want is only a $25 price difference from the Cartier trinity ring! Well, at least in the U.S. that is. I have always liked the Cartier Tank watch but the price in my opinion would be breaking the bank, so I am ‘settling’ for the alternative, the Longines instead which I actually like better anyways. Heh.

Besides, I went from 6 watches down to 2 at the moment. The rest have died on me and by that I mean having to retire them as no batteries can give them a fresh life anymore. Boo! Oh well, they have served me well over the years.

Longines Dolce Vita for ladies

Mind you, my brother rarely buys me gifts so, when he is offering, I am definitely jumping at the opportunity! While some of you may wonder why not a Chanel or Hermes/insert-French-brand-what-have-you, I have no inkling for anything else other than these two big-ticket items, really. Okay, fine I might be lying if I say I am not lemming after another Chanel but the fact of the matter is that I am not pining for anything from the current season. The only Chanel handbags I’d like to own are from past seasons while I am not in love with any of their costume jewelry for this season.Granted, yes the Chanel pearls are lovely, they are in my opinion ridiculously overpriced and it is costume jewelry! I would much rather have Mikimoto or some real pearls instead for the retail price of a Chanel faux pearl necklace. Besides, I already have the CC logo faux pearl pin/brooch that I bought for myself from London last year.

Enough rambling for I may go on and on. Let’s see what my brother ends up getting for me. Perhaps both? Ha, wishful thinking!

p/s: My ever generous sister gave me cash to spend on shoes (because she is a big shoe-gal) for my birthday and perhaps one of these days I will get around to taking pics of it. Ha!

Golden Year Birthday Outfit!

I had a lovely birthday as it was filled with lovely company of friends and lots of food. Heh. I was definitely well-fed and felt very loved.

Definitely lovin’ every bit of turning to my golden age!

I ended my golden birthday with a BIG BANG, literally. I tripped on the stairs and hit my head on the window sill coupled with scrapes on my knees and elbow and bruises. Best.birthday.gift.ever. Priceless! It’s definitely going to be a bangin’ year!
