During my dress collection phase, I would buy dresses that fall within my budget with details that I liked. I quickly realized that as much as I liked a dress, sometimes it doesn’t really like me back in that it doesn’t flatter my boyish/straight figure. The Club Monaco dress below is an example of that.

I love the color, pleats (told ya I can’t resist pleats much!) and the silk chiffon fabric. Yet, the V neckline only emphasized what a long neck I have, not too mention that I don’t have much in the chest area! Since I was in a pleated skirts phase (still am, actually but just more controlled for now), I decided to have the dress altered to become a skirt. I brought it with me on my recent trip back to KL and my friend’s tailor altered it for a whopping $5! (Thanks, J for your recommendation and help!) Here’s my first outfit debuting the dress-turned-into-a-skirt, which I wore to work.
When I saw Marionberry’s trend of the month link up was yellow, I had an outfit in mind that I would wear and post. Somehow, the yellow top that I had in mind can’t be found anywhere. Gremlins, anyone? My only other yellow top was the DvF for Gap Kids printed top, so I tried to make that work appropriate by layering that under my new tweed jacket. I felt something was amiss still and decided to layer yet another blouse underneath the yellow top. In my experiments with mixing prints and patterns, I’ve come to realize that polka dots works as a great neutral, so here’s my second outfit featuring polka dots and print! (the first was here.) You can check out the other yellow outfits from the link up here.
Adding a pop of orange to contrast today’s monochrome outfit and to add some color to the dreary weather. I’m also linking this post to Monday Bloom by DC in Style. This pleated H&M skirt is very similar to The Limited skirt that I recently purchased but since this is a print while the other is stripes, I justified the purchase! One can never have too many monochrome garments, in my opinion. Besides, I can’t seem to resist pleated skirts. 😉
Last Summer I wore this same dress and titled the post Monday Blues and here I am doing the same, since I couldn’t think of a better title! Well, it’s also because Monday blues is apt for today. I had taken these outfit pics before I left for work, yet it wasn’t until I arrived in the office that I realized I did not bring the USB cord with me. (Genius!) Thus, I couldn’t post this earlier during my lunch break. That wasn’t the only case of Mondays, as I realized I forgot my wallet as soon as I stepped out the door, which was good since I went back in to retrieve it quickly, but while on my way to work, I realized that I had forgotten my keys for my cabinet, which means I’d have no access to my snacks and other things in my drawers. Case of Mondays, much?
This was this past weekend’s outfit (yes, I wore the same outfit twice!) to run errands. I’m taking baby steps towards mixing prints (as mentioned here), and in this outfit, I relied on polka dots yet again, which I consider relatively neutral, mixing it with some splashes of yellow print for Spring.
I also finally wore my Valentino Noir Rockstud this past weekend and was super careful so as not to scuff them! They didn’t require any breaking in and was fairly comfy for me. Now if only I get the pair of kitten heels as well…
