Fauxionable Outfit – Winter Basics

While I have trips and new additions to my wardrobe that I’d like to blog, I realize it’s been a long while since I’ve posted an outfit. To amend that, here’s an outfit on my Winter basics. The weather has been relatively balmy in London and I’m pleased to say the least! (Sorry, I know most of you in the US are dealing with a cold Winter!) I invested in a new coat during the Black Friday sales in anticipation of the cold but so far it’s been my shield against the wind rather than the cold (which is perfectly fine by me!)

Back… with a wedding update!

*Dusts cobwebs*

Hello! I’m finally back from yet another blogging hiatus (yes, I know), one that’s far more extended than I intended it to be. Truth is, I got caught up with my wedding preparations and the little things that I had to get done prior to moving across the pond to join G. G and I had our wedding on a Sunday in DC and I moved to London shortly after on Wednesday to start a new chapter in our lives.  (Our wedding was back in early October.) Now that I’m settled in, it’s time to get back to blogging!

Since our wedding was part of the reason for my hiatus, I’ll be sharing some personal pics to (hopefully!) make up for it. 😉 Our wedding was held at a SGI Buddhist Center and it was a small, intimate ceremony on a beautiful Fall day (with Summer weather!). It was followed by a buffet reception of light refreshments shortly after the ceremony at the same venue.

As I’m not a big fan of fresh flowers, I wanted something different as my bouquet for the wedding. I lucked out when work had pinwheels to giveaway in an effort to support the cause for awareness in prevention of child abuse. Let’s just say I may have taken more than one on my way out each day. A dear friend who’s a costume designer kindly helped to put my pinwheels together into a bouquet. (Thanks, M!) I did however, purchase a bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe’s on the day of, for the bouquet toss. (I trimmed and tied a ribbon on the bouquet.)

With our love for travel, it was only apt that our wedding was travel-themed. That aside, we were also in a long distance relationship which required both of us to travel to meet periodically. With that, I had origami boats, paper planes, and hot air balloons made out of maps to be tied in to the theme. (I had an origami party with a few friends to accomplish that!) We also bought two vintage suitcases from eBay as props/decor for the wedding. Also, in lieu of a guestbook, we had Anniversary Mail postcards made instead. Our guests gave us advice (for the bride and groom), of which we will read on our wedding anniversaries. For favors, we had little suitcases filled with some Ferraro Rocher chocolates for our guests to take home at the baggage claim area.

Without further ado, here are the pics and some rare shots of me showing my face with G! (In case you were wondering, G = Geek, so that should answer any questions you may have on any Iron Man insignia on him)

Wishing Wednesday…J Crew Scalloped Dress

J Crew Scalloped DressJ Crew Scalloped Dress $168

I love the scalloped hems of this J Crew dress as it reminds me of arts and crafts that I enjoyed when I was younger. I am however, not a fan of the darts on the back and if I were to design my ideal version, it’d be a hybrid of the J Crew Scalloped Dress and the Pim + Larkin Nantucket Scalloped Dress.

Pim + Larkin Nantucket Scalloped DressPim + Larkin Nantucket Scalloped Dress $59

Well, my ideal version of the scalloped dress would have a fit and flare cut like the Pim + Larkin Nantucket Scalloped Dress but with scalloped hems like the J Crew Scalloped Dress. I would also tweak the back to be cut in a little bit for a slight racerback look. Can you picture that in your head? 😉 Now that, would be my ideal version of a scalloped dress. Oh, and not at the price tag of the J Crew Scalloped Dress but preferably slightly less than the Pim + Larkin Nantucket Scalloped Dress would be perfect! 😀 Perhaps it would help to learn how to sketch and sew? (right, if only!)

Which do you like? J Crew, Pim + Larkin, or my version?

*p/s: For those who, like me who love the Anthropologie Tropicalia Maxi Dress, it’s finally been marked down! I might have one on its way to me. ;)*

Fauxionable Outfit – Bird Print Dress

I packed along this adorable parrot print dress from ZARA with me for my trip and I wore it to a birthday party (cousin’s son 2nd birthday!).

Fauxionable Outfit – Maxi Dress

Hello from sunny Malaysia! 🙂 I hope those who got hit by the Nemo storm are doing okay. I’m sending you sunshine from here!

For the longest time, I have resisted from buying or owning any maxi dresses as I thought it only made me skinnier than I already am. I definitely however changed my mind once I bought a long dress/gown for a company event (it was just all in my head!). I now own two maxi dresses and I packed along this maxi dress for my trip which I just bought recently.

The lightweight cotton is perfect for humid weather and it was also easy to pack i.e., not taking much space. Shipping arrived rather quickly from Nasty Gal (I know, what a name!) and priced at $38, I think the dress is reasonable for its quality and being made in the U.S. I think I’ll be layering it under a sweater when I return to the cold weathers but I foresee myself wearing it quite a fair bit come Summer!  🙂
