Growing up, pink was my favorite color until prepubescent years hit and sports became my obsession. Out went pink and in came blue as my favorite color along with being tomboyish and obsessed with sportswear. My favorite Spice Girl? Yeap, Sporty Spice. I went through a phase where I refused to wear skirts nor dresses (tomboy, you know?) and it wasn’t until I started college that I would gradually wear skirts again.
While some things have changed (my Summer wardrobe is mostly skirts and dresses now), some have not. I still refrain from wearing or owning anything pink! I can count on one hand the amount of garments I own in pink and have fingers to spare. Well, today’s outfit is one of the few pinkish garment that I have. To me, it’s quintessential summer colors, all bright and cheery!
I wore this outfit a while ago but am only getting around to posting it now. I bought this summer dress last year (worn here) and decided I’d get more wear out of it by pairing it with a jacket to make it work appropriate.
Kindly excuse the lack of detail for outfit pictures as I’m still trying to figure out the best way to take selfies with my new camera. The auto-focus on my micro 4/3rds camera doesn’t work like my previous point and shoot!
While I enjoy dressing up in skirts and dresses, I also love menswear inspired outfits. Quite frankly, I’d love a wardrobe with more androgynous outfits, especially button down shirts and blazers. However, I’m just far too lazy to iron shirts and blazers seem to be reserved mostly for client meetings or interviews at my workplace (although I still try to incorporate them into my outfit every so often).
I think finally buying a pair of oxfords is a step in the right direction towards creating more androgynous outfits. I have been wanting a pair for the longest time yet I either never found something I like, or at a price point I was willing to pay. Since I resolve to focus on buying classic pieces, I finally caved in when these Cole Haan Skylar Oxfords went on sale. As there weren’t any left in my size online, I called the local store who kindly redirected me to the outlets, as they’ve all been sent there (marked down to $99 at outlets!). I love these Skylar Oxfords as they are dressy yet fun for it’s reflective nature makes it very versatile. Make no mistake that these would be my only pair for I have my eye on another pair from ZARA. Just patiently awaiting for sales! 😉
This was this past weekend’s outfit (yes, I wore the same outfit twice!) to run errands. I’m taking baby steps towards mixing prints (as mentioned here), and in this outfit, I relied on polka dots yet again, which I consider relatively neutral, mixing it with some splashes of yellow print for Spring.
I also finally wore my Valentino Noir Rockstud this past weekend and was super careful so as not to scuff them! They didn’t require any breaking in and was fairly comfy for me. Now if only I get the pair of kitten heels as well…
I had started drafting a post for yesterday’s Wishing Wednesday post but didn’t get a chance to finish it. 🙁 I will hopefully have some time this evening to complete it and back date the post. UPDATE: Post is up! 🙂
This Spring, stripes are all the rage as seen on Marc Jacobs’ S/S 2013 show. While I’m not one to follow trends, stripes is definitely something I can embrace as it is widely embraced in my wardrobe! Here’s my attempt at assembling at outfit with Spring trends – stripes, monochrome, and pastel.
